ALS Association Partners With TRON to Use Blockchain to Track Donations

The ALS Association has partnered with TRON to track campaign donations with blockchain

The ALS Association has partnered with the TRON Foundation to launch a blockchain-enabled charity campaign, according to a press release shared with Cointelegraph on Feb. 11.

The campaign, called #VoiceYourLove, aims to build awareness around amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, and raise donations for research into treatments and finding a cure.

According to the press release, TRON’s (TRX) participation in the campaign will include using blockchain technology to track donation distribution. The ALS Association plans to release data tracked by Tron to the public at the end of the campaign, the press release notes.

TRON has also participated in the actual campaign, with the firm’s founder and CEO, Justin Sun, donating $250,000 to the cause.

Sun, who is also CEO of BitTorrentacquired by the firm in July — declared that the donation was in honor of the TRON and BitTorrent community and encouraged “others in the blockchain industry to voice their love by donating to help find a cure.”

The ALS Association claims to contain the world’s largest ALS research program, working in over 150 labs globally.

In late January, United States-based crypto payment operator BitPaypartnered with Wikimedia Foundation, a non-profit and charitable organization that operates Wikipedia, to accept donations in crypto.

Also in January, Chinese non-profit Zhiyuan Hui, the leading global volunteer service firm, partnered with token economy infrastructure firm EveriToken to create a blockchain-powered volunteer tracking platform.
